CHUNG Kah Meng
Dr Chung was born in Melaka, Malaysia. He graduated as an Optometrist from University of New South Wales in 1984. Upon graduation, he joined the Optometry Unit at the Universiti Kebangsaan of Malaysia (UKM) as a tutor and then as a lecturer. He was one of the first few pioneer lecturers at UKM. Dr Chung was an educator, a researcher and a leader in Optometry. During his academic tenure, he had supervised a number of MSc students and also published widely on the topic of myopia. As a former President of Association of Malaysian Optometrists (2005-2008), he had built a good name for the Association. Under his leadership as President of Association of Malaysian Optometrists, Dr Chung and his dedicated team had organized four international conferences in four years. This achievement and sacrifice by his team has enabled AMO to establish strong relationships with optometrists and industrial partners in ASEAN region. In addition, Dr Chung and his team initiated the First ASEAN Optometric Conference (AOC). In the 20th Asia Pacific Optometric Congress 2015, Dr Chung received the “Award of Excellence” by the Association of Malaysian Optometrists in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards the development of Optometric profession in Malaysia. In 2018, Dr Chung has been awarded the First Honorary Life Member of the Asia Optometric Congress in appreciation of his contribution to the ASEAN regions. In 2019, Dr Chung was honored the “First Outstanding Optometrist Award” by the Association of Optometrists in recognition of his continuous contribution to Optometry world in Malaysia. Currently, Dr Chung is practicing at EyeQ Optometrist and he also acts as a consultant optometrist for Lions Eye Centre.
